Namibian Sky
Explore the vast Namib Desert!

Our tour starts with a night in a comfortable guesthouse in Windhoek, Namibia's capital whose architecture reflects the European heritage of the city's founders.

The next morning we head to Windhoek's Eros domestic airport and board our light aircraft to cross the desert to the Sossusvlei Dunes, among the most magnificent anywhere in the world. After a short ride from the landing strip we arrive at our first of three tented camps.

Each is run by Wilderness Safaris with the objective of being in harmony with their surroundings. To the degree possible, building materials are from the surrounding region. The goal is to be part of the landscape, so fencing and other barriers are minimal.

Each day local guides will take us on excursions to look for some of the wide variety of wildlife that call this desert home. We'll then return to our thatched roof tents for al fresco meals, including dinner under the vast expanse of the Namibian night sky. At our first camp, there is even a rooftop "skybed" for skygazing or under moonlight, looking for elusive nocturnal creatures down below.

After two nights at Sossusvlei we continue on to the Damaraland Camp below towering mountains of an escarpment near the Skeleton Coast for two nights, then we finish just outside Etosha National Park, with perhaps the highest concentration of wildlife in the country.

Highlights of this trip include:

  • Explore the vast desert wilderness of Namibia from three deluxe tented camps.
  • Spend the first night in a charming guesthouse in the surprisingly cosmopolitan capital of Windhoek.
  • View the amazing landscape from our light aircraft as we fly between our tented camps.
  • All group flights within Namibia included in tour price.
  • Experience daily game drives to see animals as diverse as an aardwolf and the springbok, the namesake for neighboring South Africa's international sporting teams.
  • Dine on gourmet meals served al fresco under the brilliant canopy of stars, undimmed by light pollution within hundreds of miles.
  • Spend two nights at Little Kulala Tented Camp in the Namib Desert, close to the towering dunes of the Sossusvlei, one of the most magnificent dunes in the world.
  • Using Tourism for Tomorrow Conservation Award winning Damaraland Camp as a home base, explore the unique environment of a dry river valley near the Skeleton Coast.
  • Finish your stay at Ongava Tented Camp on the edge of Etosha National Park, and join your native guide to look for animals such as lions, elephants and white and black rhinos.
  • This tour can be reserved on its own, or as an add-on to our South African Adventure tour that includes in-depth visits to Cape Town, MalaMala Game Reserve adjoining Kruger National Park, Johannesburg and Soweto, and Victoria Falls.
